Barrington - Last Breath of Steam
Barrington Cement works had the last quarry railway in the UK until that closed in 2005, with the works following 3 years later. The site has now been reopened for landfill (rail delivered spoil) and on Sept 25/26 Cemex had the official opening, with VIP guests on the Friday afternoon and the public on the Saturday afternoon. Rides were provided by Andrew Barclay 04-0ST Sir Thomas Royden masquerading as Barrington Light Railway AB Vulcan which worked the line from 1927-1960. By this time next year the old works site will have been cleared of all buildings and 220 homes will eventually take their place.
